PG&E to Hold Power Line Project Open House March 12
Residents can learn about upcoming power line work and related safety upgrades in the Downieville area.

Falling trees in a 2023 storm landed on overhead power lines in Downieville, leading to a week-long power outage.
DOWNIEVILLE — Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) will be hosting an open house at the Downieville Community Hall on March 12 from 3:30 to 5 PM to discuss upcoming power line safety improvements. Initially scheduled for February 26, the meeting was postponed to allow time for conditions to improve after last week’s storms. The event will be led by Operations & Customer Experience Leader Marisa Ferrell, who will be joined by members of local projects underway to install underground power lines and strengthen power poles throughout the region. The town hall will give residents an opportunity to ask questions and clarify project elements.
Local projects include the Downieville Undergrounding Project, which is part of a broader PG&E effort to bury around 10,000 miles of overhead distribution lines in high-fire-risk areas to reduce ignition risk. Power lines throughout Downieville will be buried, a task expected to cause significant disruptions. PG&E also plans to underground power lines in Sierra City following its work in Downieville.
