PORTOLA – The Portola 10U Tigers youth football team has won three playoff games to reach the Sagebrush Snow Bowl championship against the Elko Indians, said Lynnann Benbow, fundraising coordinator for Portola Youth Football and Cheer.
A win would give Portola’s youth football program its first Snow Bowl championship since 2003, Benbow said.
The Tigers opened the season with one win and three losses, then finished the regular season 3–4 and entered the playoffs as the third seed.
Portola won its first two playoff games at home, beating Burney 24–8 and North Valleys 19–0. A 38–6 victory over Carson City in Reno secured the Division 3 Western Conference championship. Across those three wins, the Tigers outscored their opponents 81–14.
Elko beat Winnemucca 27–13 in a semifinal on October 17, then defeated Fallon 23–0 in the East championship on October 24, according to results posted by the Elko Junior Football League.
The Snow Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at 11:00 AM at Bishop Manogue High School, 110 Bishop Manogue Drive in Reno, Nevada.
