PORTOLA — Portola City Manager Ryan Bonk announced by email that the city will hold a Community Cleanup & Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 8 AM – 12 PM.
“This isn’t your ordinary cleanup,” Bonk said: “To make the effort more fun, we teamed up with local businesses to turn this cleanup into a game.” While helping to collect rubbish and beautify the city, participants will also be on the lookout for “Clean Green Tickets” hidden around cleanup areas. Each ticket can be redeemed for prizes donated by local businesses. When the work is done, participants can enjoy lunch at the park, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Portola.
Portola recently earned the designation as a “Clean California Community.” This statewide program led by Caltrans rewards cities that keep their streets, parks, and neighborhoods beautiful with access to grants and funding. “This event is a continuation of our drive to engage the community in activities that provide holistic benefits,” Bonk said.
The city provided the following details about the event:
When & Where: Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Portola City Park (Gulling Street and 3rd Avenue). Early birds get doughnuts while they last!
What to bring: Participants should wear gloves, appropriate footwear, hats, and bring water. (It’s a hunt, not a race – safety first!)
Who can join: Everyone is welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A Waiver of Liability will need to be signed on the day of the event to participate.
Lunch & Prizes: At noon, head back to the park for lunch and prize redemptions
