SUSANVILLE — Joshua Kern, Chief of Cal Fire’s Lassen-Modoc Unit, announced that the suspension of residential and agricultural burn permits is canceled as of 6 AM Sunday, November 1. As of that date, holders of valid burn permits can resume burning on permissive burn days.

Cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and increasing chances of winter weather have helped to reduce the threat of wildfire, Cal Fire said. Cal Fire asked property owners and residents to use caution when burning, follow all guidelines, and maintain control of fire at all times. Before burning, residents must check whether burning is allowed that day in their area. Call 530-251-4403 for local burn days and hours. Plumas County residents can also check the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District’s burn-day map and schedule. Burn permits are still required until further notice, and agricultural burns must be inspected by Cal Fire until the end of peak fire season.

Cal Fire emphasized that safe pile burning of forest debris by landowners is a valuable tool for reducing fire hazards. Caution and safe practices remain essential, however: individuals who allow a fire to escape control or burn onto another property can be held civilly or criminally liable.
