12:21 - Report of a mountain lion stalking cats in Downieville. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified.
14:38 - Report of an unoccupied raft floating down the river in Downieville. The owner was located and was fine; the raft had gotten away from them.
14:41 - Report of an assault at Fiddle Creek Campground. A report was taken.
16:47 - Report of reduced visibility on Highway 395. The California Highway Patrol office in Susanville was notified.
17:40 - Report of a reckless driver on Smithneck Road driving at high speed and nearly hitting the caller’s son. The Highway Patrol was notified.
18:41 - A restrained party requested a welfare check on a protected party in Downieville. The request was denied.
19:48 - Report of flames about six feet tall coming from a backyard in Loyalton. The fire was out before Loyalton Fire and a deputy arrived, and the resident was cited for illegal burning during the burn ban.
20:25 - A dog owner near Downieville was given written notice about a dog at large.
20:26 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.
22:00 - A deputy made a traffic stop in Loyalton and cited a driver for a fictitious license plate.
22:10 - Report of a fire at a Loyalton residence during the burn ban. Deputies arrived before the fire department and found a barbecue, which was turned off.
22:21 - Deputies assisted the Highway Patrol with traffic control on Highway 89 north of Sierraville while a driver changed a tire that was blocking the roadway.

Thursday, August 13
00:17 - Welfare check requested for a son near Sagehen Summit on Highway 89 whose location had not updated on a tracking application for more than an hour. He later reached the Sheriff’s Office and was safe, having had no cell service.
01:56 - Report of someone possibly tampering with doors at a Downieville residence. The Sheriff’s Office described it as an ongoing issue and referred the caller to Adult Protective Services.
06:11 - Inmates transported for court.
08:49 - Report of a bear problem on Smithneck Road. Fish and Wildlife was notified.
09:20 - Request for assistance with a probation search in Downieville.
13:34 - A Nevada County deputy planned to conduct a welfare check at a Sierra County campground near Jackson Meadows Reservoir.
13:35 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.
13:39 - Report of threats being made near Hallelujah Junction.
14:23 - Report of a suspicious circumstance in Downieville. Deputies were unable to locate those involved.
17:17 - Report of a crash near Cannon Point outside Downieville. The driver was cited for driving under the influence and released to the hospital.
20:11 - Report of a bear around the senior apartments in Loyalton. A deputy was unable to locate it.
21:09 - Report of a possible drunk driver with an infant in the vehicle, leaving the Stampede Reservoir area. The caller reached the driver, who was already home, and planned to ask local law enforcement for a welfare check on the infant.
23:06 - A caller on Campbell Hot Springs Road near Sierraville reported extreme stomach pain but declined medical and Sheriff’s Office assistance.
23:21 - Report of a bear trying to get in through a window in Loyalton. The homeowner scared it away, and a deputy was unable to locate it afterward.
Friday, August 14
08:48 - Report of a lost cell phone in the lower parking area at Bassetts.
09:27 - Report of a bear problem on Main Street in Sierraville. Fish and Wildlife was notified.
10:13 - Request for contact information for Fish and Wildlife to report neighbors feeding bears at the Loyalton senior apartments.
12:24 - Report of shots fired near the Jersey Bridge on Highway 49 in Downieville.
13:22 - Request for a welfare check in Downieville. The Sheriff’s Office determined the situation, as reported, was not a law enforcement matter.
13:33 - Deputies directed traffic around a recreational vehicle on a blind corner of Highway 89 near Sierraville while its tire was changed.
14:10 - Report of a possibly intoxicated person in downtown Loyalton. Deputies were unable to locate them.
14:24 - Report of a reckless driver on Highway 49 southbound between Sierra City and Downieville. The Highway Patrol was notified.
15:54 - A wallet found at the Downieville gas station was turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. The owner was located and the wallet returned.
16:46 - Report of illegal campers with firewood piled up at Upper Sardine Lake. The Forest Service was notified.
16:48 - Report of illegal dumping at a campsite. The Forest Service was notified.
22:05 - A Sardine Campground host reported illegal campfires and called the Sheriff’s Office rather than contacting the campers directly. A deputy contacted the campers and advised them of the new fire restrictions.
22:44 - Report of a bear trying to get into a residence off Highway 49. The caller scared it away, but it came back several times. No damage occurred, and the Fish and Wildlife hotline was called.
Saturday, August 15
01:15 - A caller in Downieville asked whether the Sheriff’s Office was in the area after hearing voices nearby. The Sheriff’s Office described it as an ongoing issue.
07:13 - Report of an ongoing mental health issue in Loyalton.
09:20 - A vehicle with expired registration and fictitious plates was towed in Loyalton, and the registered owner was cited.
12:55 - A text to 911 requested an ambulance along Highway 49 west of Goodyears Bar.
15:35 - Report of a burglary alarm in Loyalton, found to be accidental.
15:44 - A 911 caller in Downieville asked for the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number.
17:48 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.
18:01 - A caller in Loyalton reported that a houseguest was no longer welcome but did not want a trespassing case or prosecution, and said they would try to work something out. The Sheriff’s Office advised it was a civil matter.
18:55 - Report of a possible restraining order violation in Downieville.
20:04 - Ambulance requested on Sierra Buttes Road near Sierra City.
20:14 - Report of a man trying to break into a Loyalton residence. He was unable to get in, and deputies located him. Ambulance personnel who checked him said medication he had taken could have caused his behavior, and Sierra County Behavioral Health was to be notified.
22:55 - A caller in Downieville reported believing someone had been stalking them for several days and had been at their residence late at night. They were advised on steps they could take, including installing cameras.
Sunday, August 16
01:03 - A bear got into a vehicle near Downieville and destroyed the interior. The bear got out on its own before a deputy arrived. Fish and Wildlife was given the details, and the caller was given information for insurance purposes.
03:05 - Report of a bear near a garage in Sierra Brooks that may have tried to get in. It was unsuccessful and no damage occurred, and the Fish and Wildlife hotline was contacted.
04:40 - A caller in Downieville reported someone walking on their deck. The Sheriff’s Office described it as one of several similar reports from the residence.
04:59 - Report of an exposed manhole cover with a large amount of water coming out at Highway 49 and Spring Street in Sierra City. The water company was notified.
05:34 - A subject was arrested in Loyalton for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
07:33 - Ambulance requested in Calpine.
08:41 - A concerned citizen reported a neighbor using a grinder next to dry brush in Loyalton.
10:38 - Report of an aggressive dog at large near Sierra City. The owner was located and admonished.
15:42 - Report of a suicidal subject outside Sierra County. The law enforcement agency for that county was notified, and the subject was found to be safe.
15:55 - Report of an ongoing mental health issue at the Loyalton substation. Behavioral Health was to be notified.
18:07 - Report of damage to a front fence at a Downieville residence. The homeowner did not know how it happened and had no possible suspects, and planned to ask around. The report was taken for documentation only.
18:52 - Ambulance requested in Loyalton.
21:08 - Report of a bear that may have tried to get into a Loyalton residence but was not able to. The bear was gone by the time dispatch was called. A deputy planned area checks through the night, and the Fish and Wildlife hotline was informed.
