Supervisor Lila Heuer presents former Public Works Director Bryan Davey with a resolution of appreciation.
DOWNIEVILLE — On Tuesday, in a packed room, the Sierra County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution of appreciation for Bryan Davey, recognizing his 21 years of dedicated service to the county. Supervisor Lila Heuer presented the resolution, which highlights Davey’s contributions as Director of Transportation and Public Works before his retirement on December 25, 2025.
Davey began his career with Sierra County on March 3, 2004, when he was appointed Deputy Sheriff II in the Sheriff’s Office. He served in that role for three years before transitioning to the Department of Public Works and Transportation on November 21, 2007, as Engineer Technician III. His steady performance led to promotions in 2010 to Senior Engineer Technician/Senior Transportation Planner and in 2015 to Deputy Director of Transportation and Assistant Engineer. The Board of Supervisors unanimously appointed him Director of Transportation and Public Works on June 5, 2023.
During his tenure, Davey provided leadership on numerous infrastructure projects across the county. Notable efforts include replacing the Packer Lake Bridge, Salmon Lake Bridge, Plumbago Bridge, and Little Truckee Bridge. He also oversaw the remodel of Downieville Community Hall and Sierraville School. Additionally, Davey managed recovery from multiple disasters, including the 2017 winter storms, the 2020 Loyalton Fire, storms in 2021 and 2023, the 2024 Bear Fire, and the August 2025 storm.
The resolution notes Davey's prior professional experience of 16 years at Chevron’s Fuels and Oils Engine Research Laboratory in Richmond, California, before he moved to Sierra County. A resident of Sierra City, Davey has been active in the community, serving as Chief of the Sierra City Volunteer Fire Department from 2008 to 2019. The document describes him as a respected outdoor enthusiast, fearless snowmobiler, and devoted family man.
In adopting the resolution, the Board of Supervisors expressed gratitude for Davey’s exemplary service, dedication to community health and safety, and commitment to the principle of “Always Do What’s Best for Sierra County.” After the presentation, Davey addressed the room and his former department, saying, “It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve all of you. You guys are what makes all this possible; I just kind of herded the cats. […] I’m really proud of every single one of you.” Several speakers afterward lauded Davey’s friendship and community service.
