Sierra County Election Results

SIERRA COUNTY — Ballots have been counted in Sierra County’s March 5th primary election, and the results are in. While some mailed ballots have yet to be counted, little is expected to change in the coming days. Here are the winners.

Local Races

Sierra County Superior Court Judge — John “Jason” LaChance - 63.03%

The most competitive local race this year ended more decisively than expected, with LaChance securing 641 votes to David Garner’s 376.

County Supervisor District 1 — Lee Adams III - 100%

Adams ran uncontested, capturing 169 votes from 234 total voters in his district.

County Supervisor District 3 — Paul Roen - 100%

Roen ran uncontested, capturing 175 votes from 231 total voters in his district.

County Supervisor District 4 — Terry LeBlanc - 100%

LeBlanc ran uncontested, capturing 106 votes from 143 total voters in his district.

Downieville Fire Protection District Measure A — YES - 86%

The improved parcel tax continuation measure secured the necessary two-thirds vote in the Downieville district, with 145 YES and 23 NO votes. Only two voters in the district chose not to vote on this measure.

Sierra City Fire District Measure B — YES - 92%

Sierra City’s improved parcel tax continuation measure also secured its necessary two-thirds vote to pass, with 138 YES and 12 No votes. Similar to Downieville, only two voters abstained from voting on this measure.

Regional and Statewide Races — Local Tallies

Votes are still being counted for the final results in not-so-local elections, but here are Sierra County’s totals for the following races.

Democrat Presidential Nominee — Joseph R. Biden Jr. - 90.75%

Biden received 265 of the 292 counted votes in this race. The closest competitor was Marianne Williamson, who received 11.

Republican Presidential Nominee — Donald J. Trump - 86.07%

Trump received 488 of the 567 counted votes. The closest competitor was Nikki Haley, who received 61.

United States Senator — Steve Garvey - 52.77%, Adam B. Schiff - 21.70%

Garvey and Schiff were the two candidates with the largest vote totals, Garvey with 552 and Schiff with 227. Katie Porter came a distant third with 85 votes.

United States Senator (Partial/Unexpired Term) — Steve Garvey - 53.88%, Adam B. Schiff - 21.02%

The results closely mirrored those of the regular Senate race, though votes for Garvey and Schiff alternatives were split between fewer candidates.

United States Representative, District 3 — Kevin Kiley - 66.32%, Jessica Morse - 31.61%

Kiley was the clear preference of Sierra County voters, with 707 votes to Morse’s 337. Both will advance to the general election ballot.

State Senator, District 1 — Megan Dahle - 82.17%, David Fennell - 17.83%

State Assembly Member District 1 - Heather Hadwick - 39.83%

This very tight race has Hardwick leading with 314 votes, followed closely by Tenessa Audette with 289 votes (35.90%), followed by Mark Mezzano with 155 votes (18.93%).

Proposition 1 — NO - 66.23%

Sierra County clearly rejected Proposition 1, but the state race remains extremely close.
