A YOLO expedition installs fencing
NEVADA CITY — The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) is offering a Youth Outdoor Leadership Opportunity (YOLO) this summer for high school students who want to participate in Yuba River Watershed wildlife preservation and restoration. SYRCL will lead a student expedition from its office in Nevada City to Loney Meadow, downstream from Culbertson Lake, where they will install cattle exclusion fences and conduct “biological studies.” The expedition promises to develop leadership and teambuilding skills and focus on climate change and “environmental justice” topics.
SYRCL is offering the YOLO program to high school students, with a preference for those attending Sierra, Yuba, Nevada, and Placer county schools. The experience will take place over four days (all of which participants are expected to attend), from June 25th to June 28th. An optional extension day will also occur on a Saturday in October, a date to be determined. Each day, participants depart from SYRCL’s office at 8 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Lunch, snacks, and transportation between the office and the expedition site will be provided. The program is free for accepted applicants, who must apply by May 19th at yubariver.org/educate/youth-field-science-opportunities. More information is available on that page; for questions, contact monique@yubariver.org.
