LOST SIERRA — The Tahoe National Forest plans to perform prescribed burning on up to 168 acres of land north of Truckee starting Tuesday, October 21. The burn areas include roadways near Stampede, Boca, and Prosser Reservoirs. Ignitions will continue for up to two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
The burns are part of work that started in 2023 to establish fuel breaks along forest roads. The breaks aim to aid evacuation and firefighting efforts in the event of wildfire.
Smoke may be visible from Truckee and the surrounding areas. Based on wind forecasts, the smoke may move toward the southwest. While smoke may settle in valleys overnight, it is projected to clear during the day. The Tahoe National Forest says all efforts will be taken to reduce impacts to communities.
