SIERRA COUNTY — Ballots for the March 5th primary election are being filled throughout the county. Here is a summary of the local options. More information, including for state and national level offices, is available in the voter guides mailed alongside the ballot.
Offices
- District 1 Supervisor
- Lee Adams III - The sitting District 1 supervisor promises to continue his work supporting the local economy and protecting the county’s rural lifestyle. Adams is chair of the Board’s finance committee and the county’s representative to the Rural Counties Representatives of California and the California State Association of Counties.
District 3 Supervisor
- Paul Roen - The sitting District 3 supervisor and Board chair.
District 4 Supervisor
- Terry LeBlanc - The sitting District 4 supervisor.
Superior Court Judge
- John “Jason” LaChance - Currently the Sierra & Nevada County Court Commissioner, LaChance believes his decades of combined service as an attorney and Court Commissioner give him the knowledge and expertise to serve as an “astute and fair judge.” LaChance has spent 20 years enjoying outdoor activities in Sierra County with his family and says he is deeply committed to serving the region.
- David C. Garner - A Butte County Deputy District Attorney, Garner says he developed a love of Sierra County through camping and vacationing since 1998 and has owned a house in Downieville since 2010. He has been a business law instructor at Butte College since 2009, prosecutor in the Butte County DA’s Office since 2019, and a pro-tem small claims court judge since 2019.
Measures
- Measure A (Downieville) & Measure B (Sierra City) - Renews an existing tax of $60 per year per improved real property parcel. The tax benefits Emergency Medical Services and Fire & Rescue Services and would raise an estimated $18,000 annually in Downieville and $28,000 in Sierra City.
All ballots, if mailed, should be postmarked by March 5th. Ballots can also be returned in person to the Loyalton City Hall Auditorium from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on March 5th only or to the Sierra County Clerk’s Office in the Downieville Courthouse.
