The National Weather Service forecasts snowfall throughout the Sierra Nevada.
SIERRA NEVADA — Today, a National Weather Service (NWS) winter storm warning went into effect throughout the Sierra Nevada region. The warning began Monday morning and lasts until Wednesday, October 15, at 5 AM. Snow is expected above 6,500 feet, with four to eight inches forecasted along the I-80 and Highway 50 corridors, and one to two feet south of Highway 50.
The NWS says that the heaviest accumulation of snow will occur Monday night into Tuesday morning. The snow line is expected to be between 5,500 and 6,500 feet. Areas in Sierra County that may be affected include Bassetts, Lakes Basin, and Yuba Pass. Snow flurries were observed at Yuba Pass on Monday morning.
If conditions worsen, chain controls and closures will be updated on the Caltrans QuickMap. Road conditions may also be obtained by calling 5-1-1.
