Traffic cameras on Interstate 80 show icy roads, high winds, and low visibility.
LOST SIERRA — Despite the changing of the seasons, Caltrans District 3 is warning drivers to prepare for winter driving conditions through Tuesday night. Another storm system is traveling through the Lost Sierra region, which the National Weather Service expects will bring moderate to heavy snow above 5,000 feet and rain below on Monday, with the snow level dropping to as low as 3,000 feet overnight into Tuesday. Isolated thunderstorms may occur. Traffic cameras show icy roads with high winds around Donner Pass on Interstate 80 and significant snow over Yuba Pass on Highway 49.
Chain controls are in effect on Interstate 80 above Emigrant Gap. They are also in effect on Highway 49 from Bassetts to Sattley. Additionally, chains are required on Highway 89 from Sierraville to Truckee at varying restriction levels.
