QUINCY — The Lost Sierra Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that a program called “Move In!” aimed at encouraging families to relocate to Plumas County officially launched at the beginning of February. The launch is supported by a $20,000 contribution from Sierra Pacific Industries and additional, smaller contributions from the Chamber and a private donor.
The “Move In!” program was initially announced last June in a presentation to the Plumas County Board of Supervisors, where it was proposed as an effort to reverse the county’s long-term trend of population decline by encouraging remote workers, entrepreneurs, and families with children to relocate to Plumas County. The program’s organizers asked the Board for a contribution of $125,000 from funds the county received from PG&E in settlement for damages due to the Dixie Fire. The county has not responded to that request.
The infusion of private funds will support the program’s first six months of operation. It seeks to market Plumas County as “a sanctuary for those who crave a deep connection to the outdoors and a resilient, close-knit community,” according to a press release. Dan Quarton, Area Manager for SPI, said, “By investing in programs that bring new families here, we aren’t just filling homes, we’re preserving the future of the local workforce and the vitality of our towns.”
The program will offer the first wave of families relocating to the county a $5,000 move-in bonus, supplemented by $500 to $1,000 in local gifts and services. More information and an application are available at moveinplumas.com.
