BLAIRSDEN — Plumas National Forest announced in a press release that more pile burning operations are planned this week on the Beckwourth Ranger District near Graeagle in Mohawk Valley and west of Plumas Pines.

The Forest Service said firefighters plan to treat up to 75 acres of hand piles through Friday, if weather conditions cooperate. Daily acreage treated is expected to be less than 20 acres, but may increase if weather and fuels conditions are ideal.

Smoke is expected to be visible in nearby communities, including Mohawk, Johnsville, Plumas Pines, Graeagle, Blairsden, and the surrounding areas, but not to have significant long-term impacts. Drivers on westbound State Highway 70 will likely see smoke.

If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve, the Forest Service said. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout operations.
